Charismatic Leader and Pharmacist
The course of the journey towards a better existence for pharmacist and their full and equal incorporation into the mainstream society have been mapped through the landmark contributions and inspiration of distinguished local pharmacist from all over the country.

In any consideration of the local pharmacists, the name Mabel Ureta Concepcion of Aklan
assumes much significance. A devoted health care professional, Concepcion rendered exemplary service to Aklan, her province of birth, the region and the country in general.
In 2008, she was awarded with the Bowl of Hygeia Award by the 40,000 strong, 88-year old Philippine Pharmacists Association during the 58th national Convention held on April 12, 2008 in Astoria Regency Convention Center in Zamboanga City.
This January 2009, she was chosen as one of the five awardees of Distinguished Alumni Award given by the Aklan Catholic College High School on its 60th Diamond Jubilee Foundation.
An Ardent Believer of Education
Mabel finished her elementary at Cayangwan Elementary School (Class 1973) in Makato and her high school at Aklan College (now Aklan Catholic College) in 1977. In 1983, she earned her degree in Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy at the University of Sto. Tomas.
She passed the Pharmacy Licensure Examination in 1982. For 24 years now as a registered Pharmacist, Mabel values and enhances the nobility of her profession by for instance, organizing meaningful events such as the Pharmacy Excellence Awards and Testimonial Dinner for Senior Pharmacists.
A Public Health Worker Who Matters
In December 1983, three months after Mabel passed the Licensure Examination, she was admitted as Hospital Pharmacist at the Dr. Rafael S. Tumbokon Memorial Hospital, the provincial hospital of the Province of Aklan where she served for four (4) years and three (3) months until March 31, 1988. In April 1, 1998, she was appointed Food and Drug Regulations Officer II, a position she held with the Department of Health for more than 19 years now.

The 25-year illustrious and fruitful career of Mabel can best be described as a journey of inspiring commitment and dedication to enhancing the status of Public Health Workers in the national setting. Her name rings a bell especially when the town talks about counterfeit drugs. She has diligently worked for the apprehension of fake doctors and pharmacists for violations of laws on counterfeit drug. Setting an example, she was once cited as a “Primed and Energetic Employee” of DOH.
“I have to see to it that our programs are properly considered and taken cared of. I believe that dedication to every aspect of endeavor is a must. This must be coupled with integrity and efficiency to service,” she said.
As a government employee, she made remarkable accomplishments as an Advocate of Health Communities trough Healthy Information, She is a long-time lecturer of Consumer Welfare Month organized by the Department of Trade and Industry, Laws on Counterfeit Drugs, Drug Addiction, Family Planning, Reproductive Health, Pollution Control, Position Control. She also sits as member of the Provincial Price Coordinating Council.
For 19 years now, she has been acknowledged as a dedicated Media Resource Person. To promote sanitation in communities and to prevent the spread of diseases, she is, since 1988, a resource person on various topics ranging from school sanitation and health services, pollution of the environment and water supply.
A Socio-Civic Leader for 25 Years
Mabel is known as a socio-civic leader whose passion for service and volunteerism is beyond reproach. She was recognized, in fact, for her significant contribution to the effective discharge of her profession’s social responsibility. As former Vice President now Consultant of Kabalikat Civicom 417 Aklan Chapter, a search and rescue group, Mabel earned a stellar reputation in her career in community service. Mabel has shown leadership in many pursuits.
A Charismatic Leader: The Woman behind Professional Organizations
Mabel’s career as a pharmaceutical leader is characterized by many firsts – a fitting testimony to a career hinged on nothing short of excellence. As the newly-elected Vice President for Visayas of the Philippine Pharmacists Association, she holds the distinction as the first Aklanon to be admitted to the national board of the country’s oldest pharmacist organization. She was also elected Vice President for Visayas of the Department of Health League of Pharmacists.
Prior to her election to national office of these two professional organizations, she served as Government Representative of the Aklan Pharmaceutical Association for Pharmacy Year 2002-2007.
Her multi-faceted and distinguished service record spanning 24 years as a Registered Government Pharmacist tells of a legendary adventure for the promotion of pharmacy as noble yet distinct among health care profession and she even organized events to recognize the exceptional achievements of senior pharmacist. Through her services and enthusiastic leadership, she forged and strengthened new territory for pharmacists in the province as instrumental leader of APhA.

Mabel is a true model of excellence and inspiration for all the pharmacists and Public Health Workers. Her outstanding, 24-year professional career and lifetime achievements merited several honors and awards.
